National Academy (MP) Lifts Guru Nanak Hockey Gold Cup, Khalsa Hockey Academy Runner Up

In a very close contest, the National Hockey Academy (MP) today lifted All India Guru Nanak Dev Ji Gold Cup-2019 title after defeating host the Khalsa Hockey Academy in the final played at the historic Khalsa College campus here. The Khalsa team had be content with the Runner Up position while the third runner remained Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala in the tournament in which attracted eight top level national hockey teams from all over the country. 

Both the teams played well and scored 1-1 by the end of the final match and later the winner was decided by the penalty shoot out to each match. The National Academy (MP) took the best advantage of the five strokes and beat the Khalsa with 4-2. The five-day-long tournament turned out to be an interesting fight for the title as almost all the teams had already got the national level exposure

Priyanka from Khalsa Hockey was declared player of tournament while Kanchan Nidhi from MP Academy was declared as the player of the match today. Apart from the title the winner team also got cash prize of 51,000 while runner up got 31,000 and second runner up got 21,000.  The Gold Cup was hosted by the Khalsa Hockey Academy under Khalsa College Charitable Society at the historic Khalsa College campus from February 20 to 24. Society’s Rector Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal whow as the chief guest said the managements is committed to promote the game of hockey. He said the efforts will be made to install the atro-turf also on the campus with the help from the Centre government.

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) was the official sponsor of the tournament and its Chief Corporate Sports Officer JS Waraich who was the guest of honour at the function today said that they will provide necessary assistance to the Khalsa College Society for strengthening the sports infrastructure in future also, He said they were proud to be part of the tournament which witnessed a lots of talents in the fields of the game of hockey. 

Principal Khalsa College Dr. Mehal Singh gave the vote of thanks. Sports Director Dr. Kanwaljit Singh said that the Khalsa Hockey Academy had recorded national and international achievements in the short span of time as it was constituted in 2016. KCGC joint secretaries including Jagdish Singh, SS Mannan, Members PS Bal, Principal Manpreet Kaur, harpreet Kaur, Puneet Nagpal, Olympian Balwinder Shammi, Physical Education Head Dr.Daljit Singh, staff and students were present in large bnumber.
